Germany expels Chadian envoy in tit-for-tat move

Germany on Tuesday ordered Chad ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours, in response to a similar decision by the Chadian government on Friday.

“In response to the unfounded expulsion of our Ambassador to Chad, we today summoned the Chadian Ambassador in Berlin, Mariam Ali Moussa, and called on her to leave Germany within 48 hours,” Germany’s Foreign Ministry tweeted.

“We regret that it had to come to this,” it added.

The ministry argued that the expelled German Ambassador Jan-Christian Gordon Kricke carried out his mission in N’Djamena in an exemplary manner and has worked for human rights and the rapid transition to a civilian government in Chad.

On Friday, the Chadian government ordered the German Ambassador Kricke to leave the country within 48 hours due to his “impolite attitude” and “lack of respect for diplomatic customs”.
