BERLIN, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised on Tuesday the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for its alliance and guarantee of German security, democracy, and freedom.

This came in a statement by Chancellor Scholz before heading to Washington DC to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the NATO founding.

NATO’s mission of defending freedom and democracy remains unchanged, added Scholz.

Bonds among the NATO member states were strengthened during the Russian-Ukrainian war since February 2022, when the war began, he said, underscoring the importance of Ukraine’s allies, including NATO and Germany, in providing aid to Kyiv.

Scholz highlighted Ukraine’s need for air defense aid to counter Russian air attacks, recommending Germany’s air defense skills be provided to Ukraine as they are close allies.

The 75th anniversary of NATO alliance, Scholz added, would send a clear message to Russian leadership underlining NATO’s support for Ukraine.
