French President Emmanuel Macron requested on Monday that Prime Minister Gabriel Attal remain in his position for the sake of the country’s stability.

BFM News reported that Macron refused Attal’s resignation, submitted earlier today following his party’s defeat in the legislative elections, where despite the leftist New Popular Front’s leading position; no party secured an absolute majority.

Macron urged Attal to stay in office to ensure the country’s stability, commending Attal’s role during the recent European and legislative election campaigns, it added.

The presidential coalition “Ensemble” came in second, securing 163 out of 577 seats in the National Assembly.
