Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fouad Hussein headed Iraq’s delegation to the Arab League Council meeting at the ministerial level in its regular session (162), which was held under the chairmanship of the Republic of Yemen this evening, Tuesday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that: “The session was allocated to solidarity with the State of Palestine and standing against the aggression on Gaza, as the participants agreed to remove all items from the agenda and focus exclusively on the Palestinian issue item in support of the Palestinian people and their cause.”

The meeting was attended by a number of guests from outside the Arab group, including Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, UN Under-Secretary-General and Commissioner-General of UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini, and Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Re
construction in Gaza Sergt Kaag, who delivered speeches in which they stressed the importance of cooperation with the Arab world to address the challenges facing Gaza and the Palestinian cause.

Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein also held several meetings on the sidelines of the meetings with his counterparts from the foreign ministers of the participating countries, in addition to bilateral meetings with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the UN Under-Secretary-General and the Commissioner-General of UNRWA.
