Fierce Contests on Second Day of Qatar Prix de lArc de Triomphe


The Qatar Prix de lArc de Triomphe continued on Saturday, with nine races, including three Group 1s and three Group 2s. It is sponsored by QREC as part of the partnership between QREC and France Galop. This sponsorship started in 2008 and will continue until 2027.

A high class colt, the three-year-old ILLINOIS (Galileo) landed the Gr.2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay at Paris Longchamp. The Derrick Smith, John Magnier and Michael Tabor – owned is trained by Aidan OBrien and was ridden to success by Ryan Moore.

The four-year-old AREEJ (Dariya) secured her first Gr.1 (PA) victory by winning the Qatar-sponsored Gr.1 Arabian Trophy Des Juments. Trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeault and ridden by Alexis Pouchin, the YAS Racing Management – owned filly showed her best to win in good style.

An exceptional stayer, KYPRIOS (Galileo) landed his eighth Gr.1 victory by winning the Qatar-sponsored Gr.1 Prix du Cadran. Owned by Moyglare, Magnier, Tabor, Smith and Westerberg and trained by Aidan OBrien, the high class colt was ridd
en by loyal partner Ryan Moore.

The QREC sponsored Prix de la Place de la Concorde (Handicap) – went the way of the three-year-old Blue Brother (Intello) who scored for the second time in his life career. Owned and Bred by Gemini Stud and trained by Gianluca Bietolini, the young colt was ridden by Ronan Thomas.

A remarkable colt, the three-year-old RAMADAN (Le Havre) secured his first Gr.2 success when winning the Gr.2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein sponsored by QREC.

The three-year-old GRATEFUL (Galileo) landed the Gr.1 Qatar Prix de Royallieu at ParisLongchamp. Owned by Magnier, Tabor, Smith and Westerberg, the promising filly gave a fourth victory of the day to trainer Aidan OBrien and was ridden by Christophe Soumillon.

A tough colt, the three-year-old JAYAREBE (Zoffany) earned a first Gr.2 success when winning the Gr.2 Prix Dollar sponsored by QREC. After a good effort behind Economics in the Gr.2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano when last seen, the Iraj Parvizi owned colt is trained by Brian Meehan and was ridd
en by Sean Levey.

Today’s winners were crowned by HE CEO of the Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al-Thani, QREC Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, President of the Asian Equestrian Federation and QREC Vice Chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, Assistant Undersecretary of Culture Affairs of the Ministry of Culture Dr. Ghanim bin Mubarak Al Ali, QREC Acting CEO Bader Mohammed Al Drwish, QREC Board Member Ahmed bin Mohammed Alabdulmalik, and Director of QREC Support Services Department Ahmed Amanalla Al Sheebani.
