Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attacked the global system’s handling of the crisis in the Gaza Strip, and described the duality of social media platforms’ handling of that crisis as “digital fascism”.
Erdogan said in a speech he delivered today in the capital Ankara during a symposium on human rights: “The global system raised the banner of bankruptcy towards the crisis in Gaza, and is suffering from a dangerous power vacuum and we are facing a decline in morals and conscience globally.”
He added: “This injustice in Gaza, which should naturally move humanity, was not met with any reaction from the UN Security Council.”
Regarding Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, the Turkish president said: ‘The natural place for perpetrators of genocide is not the parliamentary platforms but the courtrooms,’ and those who applauded Netanyahu’s lies – the Hitler of our time – will not be able to remove this black stain that has been inflicted on them.’
President Erdogan also criticized social media platforms for thei
r double standards in dealing with the crisis in Gaza, saying: ‘We are facing a digital fascism that does not tolerate even the images of Palestinian martyrs, and immediately bans them, marketing this as ‘freedom.”
Erdogan said: ‘Social media platforms deliberately ignore compliance with the rules in Turkey, while showing interest in them in America and Europe,’ pledging to automatically unblock social media platforms if ‘Turkey’s legitimate demands are met and its sensitivities are respected.’
