Turkish media announced today, Tuesday, that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will arrive in Ankara tomorrow, Wednesday, on an official visit, the first of its kind since the deterioration of relations between the two countries following the overthrow of the late President Mohamed Morsi, who belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood, more than 12 years ago.

Turkish media reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will receive his Egyptian counterpart at Bestepe Palace in Ankara, and that the two leaders will chair the high-level meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council.

The Egyptian President’s agenda in Turkey is scheduled to discuss the crisis in Gaza, and discuss the joint steps that can be taken “to stop the fire and the course of the trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the International Court of Justice.”

The two sides will also discuss other regional issues, including the situations in Libya, Sudan and Somalia.

On the economic side, the two sides are scheduled to discu
ss how to work to achieve an increase in the volume of trade between the two countries from 10 to 15 billion dollars, in addition to energy and natural gas issues, and cooperation in the fields of health, tourism and defense.

For his part, the Chairman of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board, Mustafa Denizer, said in a press statement that it is expected that “nearly 20 agreements in the fields of defense, energy, tourism, health, education and culture will be signed between Turkey and Egypt.” He explained that ” relations between the two countries returned to normal about a year ago, and that the positive course of relations has given confidence to both sides in the business world.”
