Egypt’s President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi affirmed Saturday his country’s rejection to function Rafah Border Crossing as a tool used to tighten the blockade on Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a joint news conference with visiting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who pays the first visit in its kind to Cairo in 15 years, Al-Sisi referred to Egypt’s stance calling for the need of an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Strip.

He affirmed Egypt’s categorical rejection of the displacement of Palestinians, in its forms, and any attempts aiming to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Al-Sisi said that talks with his Serbian counterpart focused on sharing views regarding all issues regionally and internationally that top the Ukrainian issue, in addition to situations in Sudan and Libya.

He underlined the need of achieving peace as soon as possible, noting that they touched upon the situations in the Western Balkan.

He said they emphasized the importance of the Serbian role in estab
lishing stability and enhancing cooperation in the Western Balkans, in light of Serbia’s prominent role in activating the “Open Balkans” initiative, which boosts opportunities for rapprochement between the countries of the Western Balkans and consolidates the foundations of regional stability.

Meanwhile, Vucic said the talks dealt with several international key issues, including the Ukrainian issue and means of boosting cooperation between Egypt and Serbia in military, technical and agricultural fields.

He elaborated that they agreed on carrying out joint military drills between the two sides in the coming period.

He referred to the signing of some key deals that will contribute to enhancing commercial, economic and industrial cooperation between Egypt and Serbia.

Vucic affirmed that his country welcomes Egyptian investors in Serbia.
