CAIRO: The Arab Republic of Egypt condemned on Monday Israel’s shelling of displaced persons tents in the al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis, southwest of the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the killing and injury of more than 100 civilians.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned the ongoing Israeli massacres against civilians in the Strip, amid the absence of any effective international action to end this human suffering, which has become a real challenge to the credibility of all human norms and values, and a violation of the simplest rules of international humanitarian law and human rights.

It slammed the continuation of these crimes and the disregard for the lives of innocent people and civilians as a threat to regional and international peace and security, calling on all international actors to distance themselves from the policy of double standards and to assume their human and moral responsibilities to stop this human tragedy immediately.

Egypt reminded all parties that a just en
d to the suffering of the Palestinian people and the restoration of security and stability in the region cannot be achieved by a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but rather through the achievement of a just and lasting settlement of the conflict which only basis is a two-state solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Ministry called for intensified efforts to restore hope to the Palestinian people in self-determination and the restoration of their freedom.
