Discussing wells illegal drilling issues in Sana’a


A meeting in Sana’a province chaired on Monday by the secretary general of the governorate’s local council, Abdul Qader Al Jilani, discussed issues related to water resources and illegal drilling of wells in the province.

The meeting, which included members of the administrative body of the provincial local council, Abdulsalam Al-Jaifi, Mahyoub Mahdi, Ali Al-Suhaili, the head of the General Authority for Water Resources, Engineer Hadi Quraya, and the provincial undersecretary for the investment sector – member of the Sana’a Basin Committee – Yahya Jumaan, discussed the issues faced by the Authority’s branch in the province, especially the random drilling of water wells and ways to address them.

The meeting reviewed the plans and directions of the Authority during the next phase in managing the development of water resources and achieving savings in the quantities of water to meet developmental uses in various sectors, utilizing the amount of rainfall as a primary source.

ity of establishing a fund to support and recharge groundwater, where the two province deputies, Yahya Jumaan , Fares Al-Kahali, and the director of the Authority’s branch in the province were tasked with preparing plans , studies and presenting them to the Authority’s presidency and the leadership of the province for discussion and approval.

At the meeting, Secretary-General Al-Jilani emphasized the need to seek solutions to limit the indiscriminate drilling of wells, preserve the water wealth in Sana’a Basin and limit its depletion.

He also stressed the keenness of the local authority in the province to provide support and assistance to the authority to enable it to play its role in preserving water resources , legalizing the extraction and use of water.
