Demonstrators blocked the highway linking Babylon and Basra today, Monday, near al-Shumali district, in protest against the drying up of rivers in the areas south of Hilla.
Dozens of residents of al-Shumali district, south of Hilla, the center of the governorate, gathered and blocked the highway linking Babylon and Basra, to demand water and to protest the drought that caused a mass migration.
The demonstrators threatened to stage a sit-in and block the highway completely if their demands were not met.
