Amman: The Amman Chamber of Commerce and the Capital Governorate Council have agreed to establish a joint committee aimed at exploring avenues for collaboration and implementing investment and service projects beneficial to merchants and citizens in the capital.

Khalil Haj Tawfiq, President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, underscored the significance of cooperation between the Chamber and the Council to advance sectors and initiate joint initiatives that contribute to Amman’s development.

Emphasizing a unified approach to tackle challenges facing merchants, he highlighted the sector’s need for solutions to enhance commercial and service activities and address unemployment through strategic investment projects.

Haj Tawfiq advocated for the establishment of a dedicated center and exhibition grounds in Amman akin to global standards, positioning the capital prominently on the international shopping map. He also proposed hosting an annual shopping festival to attract Arab family tourism and enhance the city’
s economic appeal.

He outlined plans presented to the Greater Amman Municipality to revamp popular markets with improved infrastructure, including parking facilities and public amenities, geared towards serving merchants, citizens, and tourists.

In alignment with its commitment to social responsibility, the Chamber supports various charitable initiatives across Jordan and operates a comprehensive one-stop service center catering to economic sectors and community welfare, he pointed out.

Ahmed Abdallat, Chairman of the Capital Governorate Council, affirmed the Council’s dedication to strengthening ties with the Chamber for the collective benefit of citizens and merchants in Amman, highlighting its budgetary capabilities to fund service projects, including solar energy initiatives and market improvements, aimed at enhancing public and commercial amenities.

Abdallat stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the Council and the Chamber in shaping legislative frameworks and fostering development
and investment opportunities.

He proposed the formation of a joint committee to strategize on these fronts, with a focus on revitalizing historical markets and revitalizing downtown Amman.

The meeting between members of the Capital Governorate Council and the Amman Chamber of Commerce concluded with a commitment to pursue joint ventures aligned with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, aimed at promoting partnership and implementing developmental and service-oriented projects in Amman, particularly the establishment of an integrated commercial hub to support local merchants.
