Amman: Captain Haitham Misto, the Chief Commissioner of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), presided over the Jordanian delegation attending the Fourteenth Air Navigation Conference (AN-CONF/14), which is scheduled to take place in Montréal, Canada, from August 26 to September 6.

The conference discusses working papers from the 193 member states of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in addition to international institutions working in the civil aviation sector, and states participate with high-level delegations of decision-makers in the fields of civil aviation, accompanied by experts in civil aviation safety and air navigation, said a CARC statement on Wednesday evening.

The conference provides an opportunity to discuss key technical topics in preparation for the 42nd session of the General Assembly of Civil Aviation next year. Among the most important items of discussion at the conference are ICAO’s international plans in the fields of safety and air navigation an
d their harmonization, identifying the organization’s priorities for the next stage in light of climate change considerations and international plans to achieve zero carbon neutrality in 2050, in addition to discussing the challenges related to the consequences of technological acceleration and innovation on civil aviation safety and air navigation efficiency and ways to optimally exploit them, and providing a clear vision for the future, especially in setting priorities

On the sidelines of the conference, Misto met with ICAO Council President Salvatore Chiquitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar. The meeting addressed key topics of joint cooperation between ICAO and Jordan in efforts to enhance the safety of international civil aviation, in addition to a number of files that the CARC is working on at the local, regional, and international levels.
