Cancer-stricken Palestinian freedom fighter incarcerated in Israel moved to hospital after entering into a coma

Cancer-stricken Palestinian freedom fighter, Nasser Abu Hmaid, 50, who has entered into a coma yesterday and was today transferred from Ramle clinic prison, where he has been kept, to a hospital in Israel, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

It said that the latest reports on the health status of Abu Hmaid, from Amari refugee camp in Ramallah and who is serving multiple life terms for resisting the Israeli occupation, confirm that he has reached the point of no return and that he is at risk of death at any moment.

“The occupation authorities insist on continuing its crime against Abu Hmaid by continuing to keep him in Ramle prison despite recent failed legal attempts to release him after the occupation courts rejected his request for early release to be with his family in his last days after the doctors confirmed, at the beginning of September, that he was in his last days,” said the PPS in a statement.

Abu Hmaid’s health began to deteriorate in August of last year after he was diagnosed with lung cancer at an advanced stage as a result of the prison administration’s procrastination in conducting examinations for him.

It is noteworthy that about 600 Palestinian sick freedom fighters are held behind Israeli prison bars, including 24 who suffer from cancer and tumors of various degrees.

The PPS accused the Israel Prison Services of medical negligence by intentionally refusing to provide treatment to ill prisoners.
