Aqaba: The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Commissioner for Youth and Community Entrepreneurship, Ramzi Kabariti, inaugurated a specialized workshop on Monday titled “Enhancing the Capacities of Members of the Royal Marine Environment Protection Administration.”

The workshop, conducted in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Aqaba Marine Reserve, aims to strengthen the protection of Aqaba’s marine environment.

Over three days, the workshop will focus on improving the skills of department heads within the Aqaba Marine Reserve through targeted training. Participants will be equipped to tackle environmental challenges in the region using scientific and sustainable approaches, and they are expected to pass on their knowledge to other members of the Royal Administration.

The workshop includes expert-led lectures, discussions, and practical training, with participants undertaking field visits to coastal areas and the Aqaba Marine Reserve. The training is designed t
o equip participants with the latest scientific methods for monitoring and protecting marine life.

This workshop is part of a series of activities organized by the ASEZA to enhance environmental awareness and promote sustainable development in the region, with a focus on preserving Aqaba’s natural resources and marine heritage.

Representing ASEZA’s Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners, Nayef Fayez, Kabariti highlighted the importance of the workshop in building national capacities for marine environmental protection. He praised the Royal Administration’s critical role and the fruitful cooperation with the UNDP in achieving sustainable development goals related to preserving the marine environment.

Brigadier General Tamby Hamkari, Director of the Royal Department for Environmental Protection, emphasized the workshop’s significance in developing the skills of the department’s personnel. These enhanced skills will enable more effective enforcement of laws and regulations on marine environment protection
in Aqaba.

Hamkari also expressed the Royal Department’s readiness to collaborate with all initiatives that contribute to safeguarding the Gulf of Aqaba’s marine environment.

Nidal Oran, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Team Leader at UNDP Jordan stated that the workshop is part of the program’s strategy to bolster the capacities of the Royal Department’s members, underscoring the UNDP’s commitment to supporting marine environment protection efforts in cooperation with the ASEZA to develop sustainable solutions to the region’s environmental challenges.
