Chairman of Arab Permanent Human Rights Committee (AHRC) Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi confirmed Monday that the Palestinian cause is “Arab’s first cause” and that it has been at the forefront of the agenda items of the Permanent Committee since its establishment in 1968.

During his presidency of the 54th session of the Arab Permanent Committee, Al-Mutairi said that efforts must be continued to boost human rights, in a framework that takes into account concerns, meets hopes and aspirations, and achieves strategic goals to move forward the joint Arab human rights work, He pointed out to the International Court of Justice ruling in The Hague on July 19 regarding the illegality of the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza for 57 years.

Al-Mutairi noted the agenda of this session includes items such as choosing the slogan (Arab Human Rights Day) for the year 2025, discussing three proposals presented by the Arab League, which are the right to adequate food, privacy and ot
her human rights in the digital age, in addition to a proposal entitled (Human rights have no age).

Over the three-day session, the committee will discuss ways to confront Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories, and Arab prisoners in Israeli detention centers and the bodies of Palestinian and Arab martyrs detained by the occupation authorities.

AHRC will discuss the executive plan of Arab strategy for human rights and follow up on the outcomes of the Arab Summit in Bahrain regarding the right to health and education during armed conflicts, based on a proposal from Bahrain.

The meeting will be chaired by Kuwait, with participation from relevant government entities of member states and other concerned parties within the Arab joint action framework.

Kuwait’s delegation is headed by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Sabah, along with representatives from departments concerned with human rights in Arab countries, Chai
rman of Arab Charter Committee on Human Rights, Director of Human Rights Department of the Arab League, and the concerned parties in the joint Arab action organization.

The recommendations from the 54th session will be submitted to the next 162 session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level for approval in September 2024.
