Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, emphasized the significance of regaining permissions for the installation of renewable energy systems that are one megawatt or more in order to fully utilize renewable energy sources, boost their effectiveness, and help achieve sustainable energy security.

According to Kharabsheh, the Cabinet’s ruling on Sunday overturned its earlier ruling from 2019 to cease awarding new permits for net metering or transit-related electric power projects with a capacity more than one megawatt.

The decision, he continued, was made in combination with the dates that the system that governs the electrical system connection of renewable energy source facilities, exempts renewable energy source systems, and rationalizes energy use for 2024 went into force.

Kharabsheh explained that the decision comes in response to the increasing requests by citizens and companies to install renewable energy systems that meet their needs and in conjunction with the issuance of the law
amending the Energy and Energy Conservation Law No. (12) of 2024 and the decision to adopt the system of regulating the connection of renewable energy source facilities to the electrical system and exempting renewable energy source systems and rationalizing energy consumption.

Kharabsheh pointed out that the approved system also aims to organize and define the mechanisms for connecting renewable energy source systems to the electrical system and their special terms and conditions, in order to ensure the safety of the electrical system in the Kingdom, raise its operational efficiency, and ensure fair distribution of approvals to subscribers.
