Istanbul, The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Israeli Knesset’s description of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a “terrorist organization” is a new stage of Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, Tuesday: “It is unacceptable for Israel, which targeted civilians who sought refuge in UNRWA schools and killed nearly 200 UN employees in 9 months, to describe UNRWA as a terrorist organization.”

It added: “The Knesset’s efforts to classify UNRWA as a terrorist organization are a new stage of Israel’s attacks targeting the Palestinian people and the Palestinian identity.”

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed in its statement that UNRWA, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1949, provides vital services to millions of Palestinian refugees, and is a symbol of the Palestinians’ right to return to their land.

It said: “Israel wants to deprive Palestinian refugees of their most bas
ic rights by tarnishing UNRWA’s reputation.”

The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that it will continue its strong support for UNRWA, calling on the international community to support the UN agency and raise its voice against targeting it.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that “the Knesset General Assembly approved in the first reading a bill that considers UNRWA a terrorist organization, and thus completely halts its activities in Israel.”

On May 29, the Knesset approved in a preliminary reading a “draft law that cancels the immunity and privileges granted to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, and in order for the law to become effective, it must be voted on in 3 readings, which Palestinian, UN and international parties see as an Israeli campaign to dismantle “UNRWA” and liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue.

Since October 7, Israel has been launching an attack on the international organization and claims that its employees contributed to “Al-Aqsa Flood” attacks
