Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani announced the start of work on a package of diverse service projects in Dhi Qar.

Al-Sudani’s media office said in a statement, “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated today, Tuesday, the first phase of the Ur Tourist City project, during his visit to Dhi Qar Governorate.

The statement explained, “The first phase of the project included the establishment of the cultural center, the open Sumerian theater, the closed Ur theater, a center for interfaith dialogue, and the administrative wing that includes meeting halls.

It added, “Al-Sudani announced the launch of executive work on projects; the Ur World Museum, a 400-room tourist hotel, the Drama Production City, as well as the (Khatam Al-Anbiya) Mosque project, and the project to establish a heritage market within the tourist city of Ur, within the framework of a package of strategic projects for the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund.

The Prime Minister confirmed, in a press statement, that his visit to Dhi Qar Go
vernorate is the second during the current year, and within the approach of field follow-up and communication, to stand on the implementation of projects or approve new projects, stressing the historical and touristic specificity of the governorate, and the national sacrifices made by its people.

Al-Sudani referred to (Ur Theater) after its completion with a level of implementation and creativity, and the possibility of hosting various cultural activities, stressing the laying of the foundation stone for important projects in the historical city of Ur that were previously approved by the Council of Ministers, such as the (Cultural City) project, to complete the tourist city of Ur, as well as laying the foundation stone for a museum and a hotel to integrate tourism services in the governorate, in addition to working to complete the Nasiriyah International Airport project, to receive groups of tourists and visitors.

The Prime Minister stated that “the opening of the local administration stadium is important t
o the people of the governorate, and it is an important sports landmark that was completed with advanced specifications, and was opened without a celebration out of respect for the atmosphere of the Arbaeen visit, in addition to his emphasis on the interest in the health sector and the opening of Al-Batha Hospital, and the importance of providing comprehensive cadres in various specializations.

The statement explained, “In the electricity sector, the Prime Minister referred to a package of important projects that serve the districts of the south of the governorate and link them with transmission lines with the Rumaila station in Basra, including transmission and distribution projects that work to sustain electrical energy, within the government’s vision to expand production stations.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the project to produce more than 10,000 megawatts, Dhi Qar’s share of it will be (1260) megawatts, and all requirements for the success of the project are available, within a new economic model
, and that the contract with Siemens will add 912 megawatts of electrical energy through the expansion of the combined cycle within the German loan, and the expansion projects within the contract with GE will secure an increase in production of 250 megawatts, which is within the Iraqi-Chinese agreement.

Al-Sudani added that more than 2,400 megawatts of electric power have been approved as projects and are being implemented for the governorate, with ongoing work towards controlling distribution and solving load bottlenecks, pointing to renewable energy projects, where a suspended contract with a capacity of 300 megawatts for solar energy will be launched, which is part of the government program.
