The talks held in Pyongyang today, Wednesday, between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un with the participation of members of the delegations of the two countries ended after more than an hour and a half of work.

At the opening of the meeting, the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea referred to Russia’s role in maintaining the strategic balance in the world, and expressed his full support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.

For his part, Putin expressed Moscow’s appreciation for the “continuous and steadfast” support shown by North Korea to Russia in its struggle against “the policy of imperialist hegemony that the United States and its followers have been trying to impose on it for decades.”

Putin pointed out that cooperation between Russia and North Korea is based on the principles of “equality and mutual respect for the interests of the two countries,” and that “a new basic document was prepared today that will form the basis for relat
ions between the two countries for many years to come.”

After the expanded meeting, Putin and Kim continued their talks in private, with Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov explaining that this format gives the two leaders an opportunity to discuss ‘the most important and sensitive issues.
