Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune took the constitutional oath today, Tuesday, after being re-elected in the first round for a second presidential term lasting five years.
Last Saturday, the Constitutional Court announced Tebboune’s victory for a second term after obtaining 84.30% of the votes in the elections held on September 7, falling by about 10 points from the preliminary results announced by the National Independent Election Authority in Algeria on September 8.
The Algerian president pledged, in his speech during the inauguration ceremony, to hold a comprehensive national dialogue to plan the path of “democracy of right” that gives sovereignty to those who deserve it.
He also pledged to achieve self-sufficiency in wheat by the end of 2025, and to reach self-sufficiency in barley and corn by the end of 2026. In the employment sector, the Algerian president pledged to create 450,000 jobs, pledging to reach 20,000 start-ups by the end of his second presidential term.
It is worth noting that thes
e are the first presidential elections to be held under the new constitution, which was issued in November 2020.
These early presidential elections come after Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced last March that they would be brought forward by three months.
