Eight people were injured Monday in a stabbing incident in the Southport area, western England.
The North West Ambulance Service said in a statement that the eight injured people were taken to hospitals for treatment, while the police announced that they had arrested a person suspected of carrying out the stabbing.
Merseyside Police said in a statement that they had arrested a person who was in possession of a knife, and that “there is no danger to the public at this time.” For her part, British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed her deep concern “about the serious incident in Southport.” In recent years, Britain has witnessed similar incidents, some of which were described as “terrorist”, while others were classified as criminal.
