An earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Monday.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 57 km south of Panguna and at a depth of 41 km below sea level, at the intersection of 6.839 degrees south latitude and 155.517 degrees east longitude.

No casualties or material damage were reported, and no tsunami warning was issued due to the quake.

Papua New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean and is characterized by high earthquake and volcanic activity. This region includes 90% of the world’s active volcanoes.
