4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesias West Java

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck Indonesias West Java province on Wednesday.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 85 kilometers from the city of Sukabumi, and at a depth of 11 kilometers, according to the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency.

So far, there have been no reports of material damage or human losses as a result of the earthquake.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
