The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the launch of air strikes on the strongholds of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in northern Iraq, killing many of its members and destroying 22 targets.

The Turkish Defense Ministry stated in a statement this evening, Wednesday, that the raids were carried out in order to destroy the strongholds of the PKK, eliminate its members, and prevent it from targeting the Turkish people and security forces from northern Iraq, and to ensure border security in line with the right to self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. /According to what was stated in the text of the statement/.

The Turkish Defense Ministry indicated in its statement that air strikes were carried out against targets in the areas of Mtina, Hakurk, Gara, Qandil and Assos in northern Iraq at 19:00 local time today, Wednesday.

It added: “During the raids, 22 targets were destroyed, including caves, hideouts, dens, and warehouses used by the PKK. Many terrorists were neutralized, including a number of the organization’s leaders.”

It stressed that “during the raids, all necessary precautions were taken to prevent harm to innocent civilians, friendly elements, historical and cultural assets, and the environment.”

The statement stressed that the Turkish Armed Forces will continue to fight terrorism with all resolve and determination in order to protect the security of Turkey and its people until the last terrorist is eliminated.
