16th National Week for Scientific Research and Innovation Concludes

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE), in cooperation with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI), concluded the activities of the 16th National Week for Scientific Research and Innovation 2024.

Held from Sep. 29 to Oct. 3 at the Qatar National Convention Center, the weeks activities, aimed to enhance students research, investigation and innovation skills, instill a spirit of cooperation and competition among them, achieve excellence in scientific research, highlight students research projects that address contemporary problems and provide them with the necessary support, provide an opportunity for distinguished projects to participate in regional and international competitions, and cooperate and coordinate with partners in state institutions concerned with scientific research.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at MOEHE, Maha Zayed Qaqaa Al Ruwaili and Executive Director of the Program Office at QRDI Council, Dr. Hisham Mohieldin Saber honored the
students and teachers who won the National Scientific Research and Innovation Competition 2024, whose research achieved the highest levels of excellence and creativity, in addition to honoring the supervisors.

In his speech to mark the occasion, the Executive Director of the Program Office at QRDI Council said that the Council began this fruitful partnership with MOEHE many years ago, with the aim of promoting the culture of scientific research and innovation among Qatari youth, exploring national talents, and providing the opportunity to empower and support them to lead the path of scientific research and innovation in the State of Qatar.

He noted that scientific research and innovation have become a fundamental axis of the axes entrusted with achieving sustainable development and the transition towards a knowledge-based economy, as defined by the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, which requires everyone in the scientific research community in the country to exert more effort and be more passi
onate and innovative in their offering.

Dr. Saber stressed in a related context that the achievements made over the past years stand as a testament to the genius and creativity of students, especially since they are the builders of the future. He added that, thanks to the cooperation between the Ministry and the Council, and the guidance and support of the joint work team and school administrations across the State of Qatar, students presented 811 research papers in eight categories that comply with international standards, while 96 evaluators from various scientific disciplines participated in the process of reviewing and evaluating the research papers, qualifying 465 research papers for the first scientific evaluation stage, of which 150 papers succeeded in qualifying and participating in this exhibition.

He pointed out that the MOEHE has agreed to increase the number of research projects participating in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the United States of America to nine researc
h projects, while nine winning projects will participate in the National Competition for Scientific Research and Innovation to represent the State of Qatar in the ITEX competition in Malaysia next May. In this regard, he praised the excellent performance presented by the Qatari team last year by winning ten gold medals for the preparatory and secondary stages.

For her part, Director of the Curriculum and Learning Resources Department at the MOEHE Sarah Al Sharim noted that the annual celebration of the National Week for Scientific Research and Innovation represents a unique platform for students to present their research and projects and share them with the community, in addition to developing their innovative and research skills, and an incentive for teachers to document their strategies in the field of educational differentiation in procedural research, which represents the first key to professional development, and helps them develop realistic solutions to solve problems, which enables them to better unde
rstand the educational process, and thus the ability to bring about the required change to achieve the necessary and continuous development, which is positively reflected on their students.

Al Sharim said that out of the MOEHE’s keenness on effective partnership with institutions and bodies concerned with scientific research in the country, the National Week for Scientific Research and Innovation was held in cooperation with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI), which participates with the ministry in sponsoring student researchers and providing them with the necessary support to develop their research, which complements and is consistent with the ministry’s efforts to prepare a generation of researchers, proficient in scientific research skills, and capable of providing innovative and pioneering solutions that can be applied, contributing to achieving comprehensive development.

She pointed out that the competitions and exhibitions that have been organized in schools in the State of
Qatar since 2009 until the 16th edition in 2024, embody the efforts of students who presented research with high-quality standards, in all educational stages and in the most important scientific topics under the supervision of their teachers and families, to ensure the continuous development of their capabilities. She noted that the 16th edition of Scientific Research and Innovation achieved added value with the originality of the problems addressed by the research and the innovative solutions it presented.

In her speech, the Director of the Curriculum and Learning Resources Department at the MOEHE revealed that 2,383 male and female students participated in the Scientific Research and Innovation Competition for the academic year 2023-2024, from 232 public and private schools from various educational stages. They submitted 1,220 research projects, of which 254 research projects qualified, conducted by 534 male and female students. The distinguished ones will be selected according to the deliberate arbitratio
n criteria for international participation and competitions.

As for procedural research for teachers, she explained that 368 male and female teachers from 116 schools submitted 328 procedural research papers, of which 30 papers from 27 schools qualified, conducted by 33 male and female teachers. She indicated that the growth rate in the number of schools participating in the National Scientific Research Competition reached 21 percent between 2023 and 2024, and 12 percent in the number of participating research projects, accompanied by a growth rate of 11 percent in the number of participating students.

She emphasized that the MOEHE will continue its support for scientific research, enhancing research skills among students and teachers, and stimulating innovation by creating a school environment that encourages creativity and innovation, as well as building the capacities of educational cadres by empowering teachers and discovering, nurturing, and guiding students towards research, innovation, and talent.

he closing ceremony featured a film about the scientific research journey as part of the National Research and Innovation Week and the accompanying exhibition. Meanwhile, Qatari inventor Mohsin Al Shaikh, Senior Director of Environment at Hamad International Airport, presented his successful experience in the field of invention since his studies, and how he overcame the challenges he faced until he established his own project in this context.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency , Director of Educational Programs at QRDI Abdullah Al Kamali discussed the various stages of the National Research, Development and Innovation Competition and the process of evaluating the participating projects and those who qualified, including procedural research projects for teachers.

He noted the contributions and support of 15 partners and their presentation of special awards to motivate and encourage owners of distinguished research projects, which gives them the motivation to continue research and innovation.

The National W
eek for Scientific Research and Innovation came as a result of the MOEHE’s continuous efforts to hold annual exhibitions for scientific research and innovation since 2009, and to showcase the innovative and distinctive research produced by students’ minds, to become one of the most important research forums for the pre-university stage at the level of the State of Qatar, to exchange and spread the culture of scientific research and innovation under the best international educational practices.

Korean Embassy Marks National Day, Highlights Jordan-Korea Ties

The Korean Embassy in Amman hosted a reception on Wednesday night to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Korea.

In his remarks, Korean Ambassador to Jordan Kim Pil-woo highlighted the longstanding partnership between Jordan and Korea, which has flourished across various sectors since establishing diplomatic relations in 1962.

The event, held at the Ambassador’s residence in Amman, was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Nimroqa, Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Ambassador Sami Ghosheh, along with other officials, diplomats, journalists, and special invitees.

Qatar Fund for Development, Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation Sign Grant to Restore Bibi-Khanym Mosque

The Qatar Fund for Development and the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation have signed a grant agreement worth $4,175,000 to restore the Bibi-Khanym Mosque Complex in Samarkand, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The project will be carried out by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

The signing ceremony was attended by HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Assistant to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Uzbekistan Hassan bin Hamza Hashem.

Following the 1897 earthquake in Uzbekistan, the architectural structure of the Bibi-Khanym Mosque suffered severe damage, leading to the collapse of the inner arch of the main iwan and destabilizing the main dome. This project aims to complete previous restoration efforts and rebuild the mosque, while also providing job opportunities to support the economic empowerment of the poorest segments of the Uzbek community.

The pro
ject also seeks to revive the mosque by offering necessary training and teaching new skills that will facilitate in-depth research and precise implementation plans to preserve the mosque using traditional building techniques.

During the ceremony, Acting Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri said: “The Qatar Fund for Development strongly believes in the importance of supporting the friendly Republic of Uzbekistan through the restoration of the historic Bibi-Khanym Mosque to protect heritage while ensuring job creation and promoting economic growth. The fund is proud to support the restoration of this great architectural landmark, contributing to economic empowerment and boosting tourism through sustainable methods that ensure the continuity of Uzbekistans rich culture for future generations.” In her speech, Chairperson of the Board of Uzbekistans Art and Culture Development Foundation Gayane Umerova praised the significance of the project and said that “the restoration
of the Bibi Khanum Mosque is not just about preserving an architectural marvel but it is also a vital investment in Uzbekistans cultural heritage and economic future. By engaging local communities in this transformative project between the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Fund alongside the Qatar Fund for Development, we aim to empower the safeguarding of Uzbekistans history while creating sustainable livelihoods that benefit generations to come.” This project underscores the ongoing support from the Qatar Fund for Development in the development and restoration of cultural centers through collaboration with leading Uzbek institutions, further strengthening the strong bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Uzbekistan in promoting sustainable economic growth and cultural preservation.

The restoration of this mosque, which dates back to the 15th century, represents a crucial step in reviving and revitalizing cultural heritage in the heart of Samarkand. The mosque is considered
one of the largest and most magnificent in the Islamic world.

GCC Joint Program Production will be active on sidelines of 45th Gulf Summit

Director General of the GCC Joint Program Production Institution Sheikh Mubarak Fahad Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said on Thursday it will participate in several “Gulf Weeks” activities in the shadow of the 45th Gulf Summit, due in Kuwait next December.

A press statement issued by Sheikh Mubarak after a meeting with the preparation team for the event, said proposals and visions for the media and promotion activities planned during the “Gulf Weeks” were discussed.

Sheikh Mubarak explained that the institution will produce media programs and launch initiatives that reflect the Gulf states’ achievements.

He added that this participation comes in cooperation with the GCC General Secretariat and under directives of the Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi.

He pointed out that holding the Gulf Weeks activities is part of implementing the decisions of the leaders of the GCC countries and according to the decision of the Supreme Council in its 35th session on December 9, 2014, calling to promote and highlight the achi
evements of the GCC countries.

The joint GCC institution had been formed to jointly promote accoplishments of the council and the six member states, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

GCC leaders hold regular summits and revise the accomplishments at the Gulf level. The bloc was established in the early 80s of the past century to enhance coordination and cooperation among the countries of the region at various levels.

Qatar Scouts and Guides Association Organizes Introductory Meeting for Scout Team Leaders

Doha: The Qatar Scouts and Guides Association organized an introductory meeting for the leaders of the scouting teams at various levels, with the aim of presenting its plan of activities and programs for the year 2024-2025, and emphasizing the importance of implementing the scouting curricula.

Commissioner General of the Qatari Association of Scouts and Girl Guides, Jassim Muhammed Al Hardan said that the aim of this meeting was to discuss the associations aspirations, objectives and future plans, the importance of keeping pace with scouting activities and programs for the target group from the various scouting stages, and to emphasize the necessity of implementing scouting curricula.

The Commissioner General stressed the need to improve the image of the Scout Movement by creating programs and activities that contribute to communication with society, as well as interaction with national, Arab and international occasions and days, so that the Scout becomes active and connected to his local and international
reality.

He also stressed the importance of preserving the scouting traditions that are based on the Promise and Law, the small group system, the life of seclusion, the Hobby Badge system, sufficiency, graded, and engaging programs.

Within the program of the meeting, Commander Hamad Al Omari spoke about the subject of forming and managing the scout group and the methods of attracting new members, applying scout traditions and activating the role of the group in serving and developing the community.

Scout Leader Ghanim Abdulrahman Al Kuwari also stressed the necessity of applying the scout curricula, which are the result of years of diligent work in development, experimentation and study in the scout field.

Kuwait Amir Rep. sends cables of gratitude to Qatari Amir, Father Amir

The Representative of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on Thursday addressed a cable of gratitude to the Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani — upon conclusion of his visit to Doha.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled noted in the cable that he had represented His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal at the Asian Cooperation Dialogue in Doha, expressing gratitude for the warm accomodation accorded to him and his entourage.

He affirmed that Qatar’s hosting of the Third Summit of the ACD with participation of top rank officials from the Asian nationS bolstered further ITS significant role in the internatinal community.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled also indicated that the event would pave the way “for new horizons of cooperation” among the Asian nations and elevate the coordination to the level of partnerships for sake of attaining sustainable development in the countries of the continent.

He also addressed a cable of identical content to the Qatari Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

Qatar Expresses Support for UN Secretary-General

Doha: The State of Qatar has expressed its support for HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, and his vital and pivotal role in promoting dialogue and consolidating international peace and security, especially in the Middle East.

In a statement Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Qatar’s denunciation of any action aimed at politicizing the role of the United Nations and influencing its message in maintaining security and stability.

The Ministry stressed the need for Israel to respect its international obligations and cooperate with the international community to ensure that the United Nations plays its role without restrictions or obstacles. It also called on all parties to respect international principles and laws.
