Basra Police arrested three people accused of an attempted robbery in al-Tuwaisa area.

The Basra Governorate Police Command stated in a statement that, after news came to the Basra Crime Control Department about an attempt to rob a citizen in Al-Tuwaisa area, the Basra Governorate Police Commander, Major General Latif Abdul-Rida Al-Saad, ordered to form a specialized work team from the Crime Control Department. The team carried out investigative tasks and followed surveillance cameras in the area, which resulted in finding the three accused and arresting them in record time.

The Intelligence Agency arrested three people accused of belonging to an international network for trafficking in human organs in Najaf.

The Agency stated in a statement that its detachments specialized in combating organized crime in Najaf Governorate had monitored accurate intelligence information indicating the presence of defendants who have connections with people in neighboring countries, trading in human organs (kidneys) in exchange for sums of money.

It added: ‘An intelligence work team was immediately formed and three defendants from the network were arrested after obtaining due judicial approvals. Upon investigation, they explicitly admitted their membership in an international network for trafficking in human organs, and they were referred to the competent judicial authorities.’

Jordan’s GDP grew by 2% during 1st quarter 2024-Data

Amman: Many indicators of the national economy witnessed “remarkable” growth during the past period of the current year 2024, amid the region’s geopolitical challenges, which continue to affect the overall performance of Jordan’s economic activity.

Jordan’s economic performance during the first half of this year combined improvement in some key economic indicators and the continued economic challenges that require strategic solutions to achieve sustainable growth.

Despite regional instability due to the consequences of the Israeli aggression against Gaza, Jordan remains “committed” to carrying out sound economic policies, aimed to maintain stability of the country’s overall economy and move forward with the implementation of the Economic Modernization Vision.

According to a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), performance of the national economy continues to be “steadfast and resilient” during “successive” challenges, primarily due to the brutal aggression on Gaza, and the Red Sea crisis that a
ffected trade movement.

The latest economic indicators monitored by “Petra” for various periods since the beginning of 2024, showed that the gross domestic product (GDP) recorded a growth of 2% at constant prices during the first quarter of the current year 2024 compared to the same period last year.

The extractive industries sector achieved the “highest” growth during this period at 6.3%, contributing 0.18% to the achieved growth rate, followed by the agriculture sector at 5.7% with a 0.30% contribution, then the electricity and water sector at 4.8%, with a 0.07% share, followed by the manufacturing sector, which grew by 3.9% and a 0.67% contribution.

Additionally, domestic revenues during the first quarter of the current year reached JD2.041 billion, marking an increase of JD45.6 million, compared to the same period of the previous year, which cover current expenditures by 85.4%, while tax revenues increased during the measurement period by about JD61.7 million.

In terms of public spending, the total sp
ending of the central government/budget during the first quarter of 2024 amounted to about JD2.488 billion, compared to JD2.387 billion during the same period of the previous year.

As a result of previous developments, the pre-aid general budget recorded a financial deficit of about JD428.8 million, compared to about JD381.1 million in the same period last year.

Baghdad Operations Command forces seized a hall with (97) ‘electronic gambling’ devices and arrested (4) defendants inside it, in the Karrada area next to Rusafa.

A statement by the Operations Command stated: ‘In conjunction with the regional search and inspection operations and the intensification of intelligence efforts, a force from the Federal Police, supported by a distinguished intelligence effort in coordination with the Intelligence and Security Section of the Baghdad Operations Command, embarked on the duty of auditing and inspecting suspicious hotels and unofficial roulette halls, during which they seized a hall inside it (97) electronic devices used for gambling, and four defendants were arrested, in the Karrada area next to Rusafa.’

The statement added: ‘The arrested persons and the seized materials were referred to the competent authorities to complete the legal procedures against them.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the number of victims of the Israeli aggression has risen to 38,098 martyrs and 87,705 injured since last October 7.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement: ‘The occupation committed 3 new massacres, of which 29 martyrs and 100 injured arrived at hospitals within 24 hours.’

For its part, the government media office in Gaza announced that the number of journalist martyrs had risen to 158 male and female journalists since October 7.

Federal Police forces overthrew a gang consisting of 4 people of foreign nationalities, specialized in kidnapping foreigners in Baghdad.

The Federal leadership stated in a statement that: ‘Following the receipt of intelligence information about foreign residents being kidnapped, a security team was formed to investigate, and after collecting information and expanding the search circle, the four members of the gang, who are of foreign nationalities, were arrested in Al-Shaab area in Baghdad.’

It added: ‘The force executing the duty freed two kidnapped persons who were in the grip of the gang, and the accused were referred to the competent authorities to take legal measures against them.’

UNRWA warns of the danger of unexploded bombs spread in Gaza

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned of the danger of unexploded bombs scattered among the rubble of destroyed homes in the Gaza Strip.

Agency Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini said in a statement: ‘Earlier this week, hundreds of thousands were forced out of Khan Yunis and Rafah in the south due to new evacuation orders issued by the Israeli authorities, the largest since October, affecting nearly a quarter of a million people.’

He added: “Desperate citizens are searching for non-existent safety. They are forced to set up tents and temporary house structures, often under the rubble of buildings that were bombed, as the danger of unexploded ordnance spreads from the remnants of Israeli bombing.”

Lazzarini pointed out that “last week, it was reported that a nine-year-old girl was killed and six other children were injured due to unexploded ordnance in Khan Yunis.”

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA explained that the grave danger threat
ens children in particular, as they spend hours collecting water and food and are forced to walk long distances amid piles of accumulated waste that could cover unexploded ordnance.

He called for an end to the ongoing displacement that the residents of the Gaza Strip are being forced into due to Israeli orders, which is making Palestinian citizens desperate.

Lazzarini urged the parties to reach the long-awaited ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip without any further delay.

Meanwhile, a young Palestinian man was martyred and 3 others were injured in the town of Beit Ur al-Tahta, west of Ramallah, when the Israeli army opened fire on their car.

While the Israeli army stormed several Palestinian cities and towns yesterday evening and early today, most notably Jericho and Nablus, which led to the outbreak of violent confrontations between its forces and Palestinian youth.

The Israeli army also stormed the city of Al-Dhahiriya, south of Hebron, and the Al-Aqsa neighborhood in the Shweika suburb, north of Tu
lkarm, in the West Bank.

Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of a Palestinian as a result of his injury a few days ago, during the storming of Nour Shams camp, east of Tulkarm.
