Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to HE Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the occasion of winning the presidential elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran, wishing him success and the relations between the two countries further development and prosperity.

Pezeshkian Wins Iran’s Presidential Elections


Masoud Pezeshkian won the run-off of the Iranian presidential elections, securing about 55 percent of the votes.

Pezeshkian won the second round with 16,384,403 votes, while Saeed Jalili received 13,538,179 votes, after counting 30,530,157 votes from polling stations both inside and outside the country. Voter turnout for the run-off elections was 49.8 percent.

The second round of the Iranian presidential elections took place yesterday, Friday, across the country and in about 100 countries worldwide, to elect the ninth president of Iran from the candidates Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili.

Copa America: Canada Defeats Venezuela, Sets Up Argentina Semi-Final Meeting


The Canadian national team qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 American Football Championship (Copa America) after defeating the Venezuelan national team (4-3) on penalty kicks in the match that brought them together at dawn today in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The regular time of the match had ended in a tie (1-1), so the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, and the Canadian team took the lead with a goal scored by Jacob Schafelberg in the 13th minute, before the Venezuelan team equalized the score through Salmon Rondon in the 64th minute.

The Canadian team is set to meet Argentina in the semi-finals next Wednesday.

Qatari Under-17 Beach Volleyball team To Confront Bahrain on Sunday


The Qatar U-17 Beach Volleyball team are due to face Bahrain, on Sunday, in the fourth round of the first edition of U-17 Arab Volleyball Tournament 2024, hosted by Jordan, until Jul. 13.

The Qatari team strive to make a victory in the match that will be held at the Sports Palace Hall in El Hassan Sport City, considering the fierce competition in this tournament, following their loss to Jordan, Libya, and Saudi Arabia in the first match.

The team are due to meet Iraq in the fifth round, while all teams will have a rest on Wednesday Jul. 9 and subsequently face Kuwait in the sixth round of this tournament.

Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, and Libya are participating in this edition, alongside Jordan, the host.

UEFA Euro 2024/ Ronaldo Breaks Records, Despite Elimination


The captain of the Portuguese team, Cristiano Ronaldo, has reinforced his record of achievements in the UEFA Euro 2024 currently held in Germany, despite Portugal’s elimination from the competition in the quarterfinals after losing to France in a penalty shootout 5-3.

Ronaldo maintained his record as the top scorer in the history of the Euros with a total of 14 goals, scoring two goals in the 2004 edition, one in 2008, three in 2012, another three in 2016, and five in 2020. He surpasses Michel Platini, the runner-up, with 9 goals.

He was unable to score any goals in the 2024 edition, albeit playing 5 matches his team, missing a penalty kick against Slovenia in the round of 16, maintaining only one goal scored by Bruno Fernandes vs. Turkiye in the group stage.

Additionally, Ronaldo successfully converted penalty kicks in the shootouts against Slovenia and France. He won the Euro title once with his team in the 2016 edition, after drubbing France in the final 1-0, in addition to finishing as the runner-up in
the 2004 edition after losing the final to Greece 1-0.
