Minister of Education discusses cooperation with international institution to support education


Ramallah – Ma’an – Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Amjad Barham, met today in his office with the official of the “Think Equal” institution specialized in education, Lena Banat, to discuss cooperation in joint programs, especially those concerning children and teachers.

The minister emphasized the priority of work at the present time, aiming to support education in Gaza, focusing on educational deficiencies, psychological interventions, and recreational activities that will be centered on organizing summer camps for this year.

The minister addressed the overall challenges facing education in Gaza and the West Bank, the intensive and continuous efforts to serve children, students, and teachers, and to provide everything that serves education, expressing readiness to cooperate with the institution and its programs in line with the ministry’s priorities and needs.

In turn, Banat introduced the institution representing a global initiative operating in several countries, focusing on children and
their education, especially in areas facing difficult conditions, emphasizing its keenness to provide services through its initiative for Palestinian children and to collaborate in implementing programs targeting students, especially in Gaza.

The meeting was attended by the ministry’s undersecretary, Dr. Nafe’ Assad, and representatives of relevant authorities.

Funeral of martyr Ahmed Sleiman in Beit Awwar al-Tahta


Ramallah – Ma’an – A large crowd from the town of Beit Awwar al-Tahta west of Ramallah, Saturday, escorted the body of martyr Ahmed Mohammed Sleiman (22 years old), who was martyred by Israeli occupation gunfire last night.

The funeral procession began from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, in a solemn procession, reaching the martyr’s family home in Beit Awwar al-Tahta, where a farewell look was given. Mourners marched through the streets of the town, carrying his body wrapped in the Palestinian flag on their shoulders, chanting condemning slogans in anger against the crimes of the occupation against our people.

The mourners reached the Dawah Mosque in the town center, where the funeral prayer was held for the martyr amidst an atmosphere of sorrow and mourning, then he was laid to rest in the cemetery.

According to local sources, Israeli forces had fired at a number of youths in Beit Awwar al-Tahta town, resulting in the martyrdom of Sleiman and the injury of three others.

Police Investigate Teen’s Hanging Death in Qalandia Town North of Jerusalem


Ramallah – MA’AN – Police spokesman Colonel Loay Arziqat said that the police and security agencies have begun search and investigation procedures for the death of a 17-year-old boy found hanged inside a house in Qalandia town, north of Jerusalem.

Last Friday, police and security agencies investigated the death of a 42-year-old man found hanged on a tree in the yard of his house in the lower Beit Ur village west of Ramallah.

Occupation arrests 15 citizens from the West Bank


Ramallah – Ma’an – Israeli occupation forces arrested yesterday and today, Saturday, 15 citizens from the West Bank, including former prisoners.

The Prisoners’ Club clarified in a press statement that the arrests took place in the governorates of Qalqilya, Hebron, Ramallah, Jericho, and Jerusalem. These arrests were accompanied by assaults and threats against the detainees and their families, along with widespread acts of sabotage and destruction of citizens’ homes.

Thus, the total number of arrests since October 7, 2023, has risen to more than (9535), including those arrested from homes, military checkpoints, those who surrendered under pressure, and those taken as hostages.

Iraqi Airways sets a date to resume its flights between Baghdad and Moscow

The director of the Iraqi Airways Company, Manaf Abdel Moneim, revealed the date for the resumption of direct flights between Iraq and Russia after they were recently stopped, as the first direct flight will be carried out on the sixteenth of this month of July.

Abdel Moneim said, ‘Restarting the direct flight line between Baghdad and Moscow is one of the vital transport lines that serves the Iraqi community residing on Russian territory.’

He added, “The number of flights was set at two flights per week on Saturday and Tuesday as a first stage, with the opportunity to allocate additional flights after studying the size of the demand for this sector.”

Settlers Burn Agricultural Lands in Turmus’ayya


Ramallah – MA’AN – On Saturday, settlers set fire to agricultural lands in the town of Turmus’ayya northeast of Ramallah.

Security sources reported that settlers set fire to tens of dunams planted with olive trees in the plains of Turmus’ayya, on the road between the town and the neighboring village of Al-Mughayyir.

It is worth noting that settlers have forcefully prevented citizens for months from accessing their lands, which has led to the proliferation of weeds in fields planted with olive trees, facilitating the rapid spread of the fire.

ACC’s certificates of origin at JD674mln in 1st 6 months 2024-Data

Amman: The value of certificates of origin issued by the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) in the first half of this year for exporting goods and commodities to Arab and foreign countries amounted to about JD674 million, compared to JD678 million for the same period last year.

According to the ACC’s statistical data obtained by “Petra,” a total of 17,375 certificates of origin were issued by ACC during the January-June period 2024, compared to 16,215 certificates for the same period last year.

The ACC’s certificates issued during the first half of this year targeted multiple countries, primarily Saudi Arabia with 4,532 certificates, the United Arab Emirates with 1963, Iraq with 1,154, Egypt with 494, and Switzerland with 15 certificates.

During the first half of 2024, exports to Iraq stood at JD313 million, Switzerland and Egypt at about JD50 million for each country, Saudi Arabia at JD49 million and the UAE at JD48 million.

Meanwhile, exports of foreign products (re-exports) amounted to JD330 million, indu
strial products stood at about JD132 million, agricultural items at approximately JD81 million, Arab products amounted to JD46 million and the rest went for other commodities, the ACC’s statistical data showed.

Parliamentary Finance Committee: Oil companies’ dues were added to the budget tables and there is government coordination to resume exports


The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed the continuation of coordination and communication between the federal government and the Kurdistan region to resume oil exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

The Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Ikhlas Al-Dulaimi, said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /, that ‘the general budget schedules approved by the House of Representatives are the ones approved by the government, and thus cancel any financial texts and paragraphs received outside of them,’ she indicated the existence of allocations for costs of oil production and transportation, worth 3 trillion and 800 billion dinars added to the general budget tables.’

She added, “If an agreement is reached between the federal government and the regional government to resume oil exports, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources in the region will proceed to coordinate to find a mechanism to disburse these amounts and pay the dues of the oil companies.”

e explained, ‘The oil companies operating in the Kurdistan region are asking the region for sums of money for 6 months, and there are contracts signed between the two parties that are difficult to cancel, because they are giant foreign companies that will resort to the judiciary and sue the region and the federal government.’
