At least 13 people were killed and about 4.5 million others were affected in Bangladesh due to floods caused by heavy rains in the east of the country.

A statement by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in Bangladesh confirmed today, Friday, that 4.5 million people were affected, indicating that about 190,000 others were transferred to temporary shelters.

A total of 11 out of 64 administrative districts were affected by the floods, with Feni, 100 km from Chittagong, the worst affected.

The country of 170 million people, crisscrossed by hundreds of rivers, has experienced frequent flooding in recent decades and is one of the countries most vulnerable to disasters and climate change, according to the Global Climate Risk Index.
